One of the best feelings I’ve come to acknowledge through talking to those within the Club Journalism industry is the feeling of publishing great content, specifically however, when it does extremely well on social media. With some claiming that it’s “unbelievable” and “surreal” that 8000 people have liked the thing they created.
Aston Villa FC: Lewis Redmond (Club Journalist)
“There’s a lot of things at Bradford that translates to what I can now do and lead on at Villa. Because I was the media manager I can now be together with a team of people here at Villa and know how to lead on content, so that’s something I’m proud of.”
“Earlier in the season we played Feyenoord. And the backstory was that in 1982 that was the stadium in which Villa won the European Cup (UEFA Champions League) when they played Bayern Munich. And this was the only time they’d travelled back to that stadium since their first capturing their first and only European Cup.”
“So there was a huge opportunity there to create positive and memorable content. I’d organised beforehand to meet with a fan through our Dutch (Netherlands) supporters group.”
“The fan supported Villa and got into supporting Villa in 1982, he was a Feyenoord fan and went to the game and ever since that day he has been supporting Aston Villa and Feyenoord.Â
“We spoke to him about his memories of the day and it was unbelievable. We then spoke to Nigel Spink who came on for his second senior appearance I believe and now he’s obviously a club legend, so to talk to him was again incredible.Â
“It made it special, so special.”
“Being able to tell the story 43 years later. In a unique way thanks to everyone at UEFA and able to celebrate the biggest part of the club’s history.”
“I mean when I was a kid I used to get my camera, record my TV and do my one commentary. So for me it’s a dream job and ultimately it’s surreal.”
Rangers FC: Mark Carrick (Graphic Designer)
“My favourite individual graphic would be the January fixtures one that I made. At Rangers were not allowed to use photos of pyro but we are allowed to use photos of the smoke.”Â

“So, I used the smoke and the negative space on the graphic to have all the fixtures stacked up above three players, and I thought that looked really cool.”
“And what helped with that was that there were a couple of nice comments on the Instagram post when it went out, with someone saying “code edit”, admin.”
“So I was so happy because that was me.”Â
“Another thing I’m really proud of is when I’m at the games and I see my LEDs going round the pitch, and I’m sitting saying to my mates, I made that.”
“So many people care about the club, so many people are passionate about it, people love it. And, to be a part of that is such a joy.”Â
“And you’re ultimately displaying how the club is seen. Everything you put, everything I make is what everyone sees as Rangers Football Club and that to me is just amazing.Â
Everton FC: Ross Hughes (Social Media Producer)
“Personally for me the best piece of content I did was on pre-season with the Women’s team.”Â
“We went to a theme park, Europes biggest theme park and we took gopros inside and created content, we colaberated with WSL, SkySports.”Â
“It was so fun and the players were buzzing. It’s definitely one of the most fun pieces of content I’ve ever created.”
