Alex Waters: Burnley FC (Content Producer)
Alex touched on away days slightly when I had the chance to interview him and what he highlighted was how long the trips can actually be.
“Next we have West Ham, which will be a 6AM start, four hour drive and we probably won’t finish until 6PM, and we won’t be back until about 10PM on the night.
“And I absolutely love it, the thrill of it is incredible however it is a long day and that’s something that not a lot of people know.
Jonny Drake: Shrewsbury Town (Media)
“Away days are different in a sense of the big thing with a home game, for me, is the match day programme and obviously you don’t have a matchday programme on an away day.”
“But in terms of digital content it’s not particularly different. You’ve got a few things more for a home game like public service announcement things, fan zone, and foundation activities.
“But for me, the main thing is the programme which obviously doesn’t need producing for an away game. So it’s a lot less workload in a way, but in terms of social media, it probably looks about the same.
Sam Jones: South Shields FC (Media Officer)
When speaking to Sam about away games and what it’s like producing content as a club journalist on away days he said:
“It’s Really exciting. An away game is a lot different to a home game, different surroundings different people. It sometimes is a different ground too, if you have never been there.
“But in terms of the work we do, it all goes down on the bus instead of being at the stadium when you play at home.
“But what’s good is that it is still homely because I’m posting and creating content on the bus with all the players so it’s still that same environment.
“When we get to the ground you have very limited time, in terms of creating content. My usual ones are getting images of the ground. Sometimes if I have the time I might do a video of the boys getting off the bus so it’s a bit of buildup for our fans.
“I like to also highlight our travelling away fans because ultimately they are the 12th man for us on ceratin occasions. So it’s a really good opportunity to highlight them.
“The difficult part is 100% after the game when you obviously have interviews to upload, it’s an uncomfortable process at first but you get used to it. With you being used to have the freedom you do at yor home ground obviously travelling back on the bus editing content isn’t as great but you do get used to it and the environment your in really does help.
